Following on the successful presentation of Barbara Coloroso, June 9 in St. Thomas, Parents for Children’s Mental Health is working with a local organizing committee to present, A Day in the Park - Bryten Rockz – August 14, 2010.
A Day in the Park will raise awareness around children’s mental illness and while providing a fun day out for families. The event will feature staged performances by bands and other entertainers throughout the day. In addition, we are asking key community members (Mayor, people with lived experience of mental illness, etc.) to speak out about children’s mental illness in order to raise awareness and decrease stigma.
It is our hope to involve community members and agencies in this event so we are asking your agency to consider the following:
Set up a booth for the day with information about how your agency provides support to families of children with mental illness; or
Sponsor a booth that provides sale of food and/or beverages (this will not be a licensed event, and no alcohol will be sold or provided) at the event; or
Sponsor a booth that provides entertainment for families attending the event (face painting, colouring pages for kids, etc.); or
Promote this event to families that you serve in our community.
Through A Day in the Park it is our goal to:
Raise awareness about Child and Youth Mental Health;
Decrease the stigma associated with mental illness;
Raise awareness around suicide prevention;
Raise awareness for Anti-Bullying Objectives; and
Decrease incidents of bullying in our community
